Final Review of SCANDAL's 2010

hey readers,

あけましておめでとうございます! (Happy New Year's Day it means)

ok, i sort of break my promise that i will upload the review every wednesday. but to be honest, i been thinking and found out i have nothing much to blog about others since other bloggers have mentioned about it already.

but nevertheless i will give my final review for SCANDAL's 2010. so hang a bit, it may be a boring since most are statistics kind.

let's start with TEMPTATION BOX shall we? a great album, i like every song, this album is truly quite a hit for Japan if i want to say and this marked their rise no doubt.

when it was released on the very 1st day, it hit the ORICON daily chart at 2nd place, which is thrilling news for SCANDAL fans like me. i mean in the space of 2 years, their albums entered top 5 successively.

moreover BEST SCANDAL is the time for a band since ZONE in 2001 to debut at 5th in weekly chart for their debut album.

of course TEMPTATION BOX ended in 3rd in weekly charts but you know what? this is the 1st time since Chatmochy's Kokuhaku in over a year for a girl band to reach top 3, which is great news!

ultimately, this album saw the entry of many people supporting them. to date, 60,301 albums have been sold. and this album also make BEST SCANDAL to be bought also. 7,961 albums have been bought in 2010 since TB release.

ok, that says much about their 2nd album. how about singles? two notable ones.

1st one is Taiyou to Kimi ga Egaku STORY. this single reached 1st spot on the RTHK (Radio Television Hong Kong) J-pop chart! superb news also. also related to them and RTHK is that they received a bronze newcomer award from RTHK, which is similar to Hong Kong's Grammy award. awesome news eh!

the next one of course is their awesome rocking song "SCANDAL Nanka Buttobase". i didnt mention much about this single but this single marks the return of them playing rocking songs again. if you all did see the PV, you can see that they applied nice choreography this time round, which is still nice also.

so what's the news about this single? the thing is that this single marks the most of sales throughout their career, with 35,772 sold up to date, which is 1k and 2k more than Shoujo S and Shunkan Sentimental (anime singles should much higher in truth at the start of career). this proves one thing: they are on the rise! this single also reached the highest position in the ORICON weekly charts in all of their singles had, which is 3rd! omedetou!

ok, having say all these, there are still a lot of things SCANDAL did which i did not mentioned.

let's start with this, in July-August, they visited Hong Kong for the 3rd time in 3 straight years for Animation-Comic-Game Hong Kong. on 1st of August, they held their 1st big live internationally in Hong Kong! of course, one of our fellow writers here, YuuJin Ang, went to their concert. very awesome as at that time, EVERYBODY SAY YEAH was played for the 1st time before the release!

after the HK trip, in late August, they provided all the songs for the anime movie 'Loups=garous'. Songs included are KOSHI-TANTAN (insert song, from TaiKimi), Midnight Television (opening song from Namida no Regret) and Sayonara my Friend (ending song, from TEMPTATION BOX). providing songs of course is just simple stuffs, but SCANDAL went one step further. this is because they presented themselves as animated girls in the film for the movie.

what is more thrilling that they decided to have some seiyuu part in the movie, which i heard it while watching this movie. awesome! these girls just can do anything!

shifting to November where i mentioned about their performance in Singapore, i have pretty touch up lots of things. but do you all know? they also give interviews in S'pore. here they are:

well, those that really just started to know them, you all can understand why they choose SCANDAL already right. haha.

finally, on the final month of 2010, there's still no break for them. 1st, they have a QUATTRO MIRAGE mini-performance, where Rock N Roll Widow from R-Girl's Rock was performed.

towards the end, they have SCANDAL X 109 MENS performance, which is to promote the shopping company 109 MENS. this is their uniform derived from 109 MENS.

ok, shirt wise is ok, but the skirts are just too short! haha.

and finally, on X'mas Eve, SCANDAL had a special BEST X'mas 2 performance. what's special? 1st, they do a cover of SCAP no SHAKE, which is a cover of quite a popular band "SMAP". after that, during the encore part, the let the audience there had a preview of how "Pride" sounds like. which is awesome!

here's the uniform they worn.

and with that, i come to an end for their 2010 production. what is my expectations of them for 2011? well, not really much.

the only 2 things i wanted for them is to become even more popular (in music-sense, NOT LOOKS) and take care of their health also.

so hereby, 2010 is gone, let's look forward to more SCANDAL productions in 2011!

REMEMBER TO SUPPORT THEM BY BUYING THEIR NEXT SINGLE "PRIDE" OK???

THANKS :D

  1. I think another reason Nanka did so well is that it was a lot cheaper! Well, one of the versions was so a lot of people would have not minded trying it out.

I'm very impressed with the amount of work and success that Scandal have had this year, but to be honest I've been a bit dissapointed with their music. Temptation Box isn't bad, and none of the songs are particularly bad but I only tend to listen to one or two when I play it. I understand they are experimenting and finding their sound, but or me they hit the nail on the head straight away. 'Spaceranger', 'Doll', 'Shoujo S'... perfect!

  2. well, is true Nanka was one the cheaper single but nevertheless the bonuses given are still great and is still one of the better singles that they had.

i do agree that they are slightly not as rocking as before but like what you said, they have do experiment stuffs in music to truly find one that is suitable for them.

nevertheless in music wise alone they are doing ok. but performance wise, they are still the best! this band proves people why music is still alive, not just looks! :D.
